Last week, we saw how AI could be used in space exploration. This week, we see AI in another unlikely location-- the big screen. More specifically, in the new science fiction movie The Meg. I'm David Shaw. Find out what role AI and Intel played in the new action thriller on this episode of AI News. Recently, Warner Brothers and Gravity Pictures released The Meg, a white-knuckle film starring a prehistoric, 75-foot long shark known as the Megalodon.

Created by Scanline VFX using Intel hardware and Ziva VFX software, Megalodon was created by animators in record time and with lifelike accuracy. From the way the shark cuts through the water to its flexing muscles and tough skin, a lifelike monster was delivered to movie audiences worldwide. Intel Xeon scalable processors power the character-generating software and physics engine. An AI algorithm automates movement for generated creatures.

Additionally, Scanline VFX used the powerful Intel Xeon processors to render the shots for the film, saving them valuable time while allowing them to create more shot options. Stephan Trojansky, president and visual effects supervisor of Scanline VFX, says-- "Years ago, you would have needed a huge render farm and a large crew for a very small amount of footage. Today, we can use 2,500 Intel Xeon processors with almost 100,000 cores that are used to compute all of the needs of the movie."

So make sure to grab some popcorn and go see The Meg to experience how Intel helps make our worst fears come to life. Thanks for watching AI News. We'll see you next week.
