In the past few years, there have been lots of private companies which are valued at a billion dollars, and these startups are called as unicorns . Since many unicorns have emerged, they coined another term called decacorns for companies which are valued at over $10 billion.

The following are some of the most valuable startups in the world:

Airbnb:

Airbnb enables people to rent short-term lodging. It does not have its own accommodation but acts as a broker and receives a percentage of the service fee as commission. The company was founded in the year 2008 by CEO Brian Chesky, product chief Joe Gebbia, CTO Nathan Blecharczyk and the firm has lodging listings in 65,000 cities and 191 countries. In the year 2017, Airbnb pulled off another massive funding round and raised the value of the company to $31 billion.

Uber:

Uber is a transportation technology company which was started in the year 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp.  The company is one of the most valuable startups in the world.  Its valuation approaches $70 billion and has a total funding of $15.8 billion. Uber makes hailing a cab with just a click of a button and has evolved into reaching logistics network that provides delivery and ride-sharing services. In 2017, Uber lost about $708 million in the first quarter, and the company is hunting for a new CFO. Although many people say that Uber is overvalued, the company continually tries to implement successful programs to increase the profits.

Didi Chuxing Technology Co.:

Didi Chuzing is a Chinese ride-sharing company which provides transportation services for more than 450 million cities in China. The company was founded in 2012 by Cheng Wei, and it has its headquarters in Beijing, China. The company provides services like taxi hailing, private car-hailing, Hitch, DiDi Bus, Chauffeur, Car Rental, Minibus, Test Drive, Enterprise Solutions, Luxe, and bike-sharing. Didi is valued at $28 billion. The company was able to capture the Chinese market, while Uber utterly failed at it and the company has investors like Apple which invested $1 billion in the business.

Pinterest:

Pinterest is an application which allows you to discover information on the World Wide Web. The company was launched in the year 2010 and was founded by Paul Sciarra, Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp. It has a valuation of $11 billion, and in the year 2015, the company raised $533 million Series G funding round from investors like First Mark, Andreessen Horowitz, and Goldman Sachs. Pinterest has about 175 million users.

Snapchat:

Snapchat is a mobile multimedia application is valued at $25 billion. The image messaging service is quite popular among the millennial groups. The app was founded in the year 2011 by Evan Spiegel. The app allows people to share instant photographs and videos.
